Amy Vogel-Eyny, PhD, CCC-SLP

Lab Director

Amy Vogel-Eyny, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor in the department of Speech-Language Pathology and audiology at Hunter, College, CUNY and is a speech-language pathologist. She is also co-chair of ACRM's aphasia and other communication disorders stroke ISIG. Dr. Vogel-Eyny specializes in evaluating and treating patients who have progressive or stroke-induced aphasia. In her role as a clinician-researcher, she is dedicated to developing rehabilitative approaches that target linguistic and cognitive difficulties in adult neurogenics and healthy aging. Aisha Haroun, BA

Senior Research Assistant

Lab Manager

Aisha Haroun graduated in 2023 with a B.A. in Human Biology and a minor in Political Science from Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, CUNY. She is a senior research assistant in the Neurorehabilitation in Aging and Aphasia Lab at Hunter College. Aisha is applying to medical school in 2025 and hopes to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecological Surgery.

 

A fun fact about Aisha is that she attended middle and high school in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia!

Zubia Hasan

Research Assistant

Zubia Hasan is a freshman at Hunter College pursuing a B.A. in Human Biology. She is an undergraduate research assistant in the Neurorehabilitation in Aging and Aphasia Lab. Zubia aims to pursue medicine, with the goal of contributing to more compassionate, effective healthcare for patients from underserved and marginalized communities. A fun fact about Zubia is that her favorite season is winter and she loves sledding!

Tahoor Arif

Senior Research Assistant

Tahoor Arif is a senior at Hunter College pursuing a B.A. in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Behavioral Neurobiology. He is an undergraduate research assistant in the Neurorehabilitation in Aging and Aphasia Lab at Hunter College. Tahoor aims to pursue medicine after graduation, with a focus on providing healthcare in underserved populations. 

 

A fun fact about Tahoor is that he loves learning languages. He is currently double majoring in German Language and Literature alongside his Biology major, and spent the last summer studying abroad in Berlin to hone his German language skills.

Research Assistant

Philomena Elom

Philomena Elom is a doctoral student at the Graduate Center. She obtained a master’s degree in English from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, where she examined the relationship between social variables and the pace of child language acquisition. She is a teacher, researcher, and advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  Her research interests are aphasia and other neurodegenerative language disorders, bilingualism, and child language development - areas she’s passionate about due to significant knowledge gaps in Nigeria, where she comes from. Guided by the principle, “If I know better, I’ll do better,” Philomena is eager to gain hands-on experience and mentorship through her time in the NeurorehAAb lab. She believes this would empower her to become a valuable scholar, contributing meaningfully to humanity.

Ramez Hassanen

Research Assistant

Ramez Hassanen is a freshman at Hunter College pursuing a B.A. in Biological Sciences and Chemistry. He is an undergraduate research assistant in the Neurorehabilitation in Aging and Aphasia Lab at Hunter College. Ramez aims to pursue medicine after graduating with a focus on specializing in Orthopedics and/or Neurology.

 

A fun fact about Ramez is that he loves to cycle and rollerblade around his neighborhood!
